When funny is cruel

‘If ‘ is a funny word. It gives us countably infinite possibilities. ‘If’, let us dream by being the bold pretext to our declarations of ambitions, though it most often unmasks past regrets that we would otherwise hide. ‘If I hadn’t taken that job” .. “if I had said yes”. Sometimes it helps us express some noble wishes like ‘if world had no wars’ .. ‘if every love was always unconditional’ but usually not so noble ones like ‘if I had a billion dollars’ or ‘if I had superman powers’. But when we end our sentences that we wishfully started with an ‘if,’ our hearts sink as we realize that ‘if’ is nothing more than a pipe dream. We recognize that we are stuck in realities, undesirable, depressing, often cruel. ‘If’ is a cruel word.
